Representative Celeste Cairns and myself took a tour of the Havelock Community College campus last Thursday. We were both very impressed with the training and educational opportunities afforded there.

At the Havelock campus you can earn a 4 year degree in mechanical engineering, and soon you will be able to earn a 4 year electrical engineering degree. There is a lot of training available for small engine aircraft mechanics as well as work training for jobs related to the work being done at the Fleet Rediness Center on base.

They even offer training on becoming an airline pilot. Finish the course in Havelock, get 30 more hours in the air, and you can get a job as a junior office on a commercial airline.

The General Assembly is very supportative of our community colleges.
